The Mavericks suffered a tough loss against the Hawks as they fell in overtime in Atlanta (130-132). The loss was especially painful because it further complicated Dallas’ chances of making the postseason.
JaVale McGee had the opportunity to seal the deal for the Mavs in the fourth quarter but missed a potential game-winning free-throw.
With 0.1 second on the clock, Dallas was down by 1 point as the 35-year-old center stepped to free-throw line to take two free-throws.
McGee missed the first one but made the second one to tie the score at 123 and force the overtime. After the game he used a movie analogy when talking about the wasted opportunity to win the game.
“In hindsight that’s what movies are made of, not playing the whole season,” McGee said, via Brad Townsend. “Then coming down to you hitting those two free-throws for the win. Unfortunately I missed one of them and it went into OT. Yeah, that movie’s going straight to DVD. It’s not coming out.”
McGee finished the game with 11 points and 6 rebounds in 23 minutes of play. This season the three-time NBA champion is averaging 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 8.5 minutes per game.
