Who’s Playing
No. 4 Kansas @ Iona
Current Records: Kansas 4-1; Iona 6-1
What to Know
The #4 Kansas Jayhawks will take on the Iona Gaels at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday at HP Field House. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Kansas lost 74-73 to the Dayton Flyers on Friday on a last-minute half-court bomb from Dayton’s forward Mustapha Amzil as the clock expired. If the result catches you off guard, it should: the Jayhawks were far and away the favorite. Kansas’ defeat came about despite a quality game from guard Christian Braun, who had 17 points and five assists along with eight boards.
Meanwhile, Iona came up short against the Belmont Bruins on Friday, falling 72-65. Guard Elijah Joiner had a pretty forgettable game, finishing with only seven points on 3-for-10 shooting in his 34 minutes on the court.
Kansas is now 4-1 while Iona sits at 6-1. A couple numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Jayhawks rank 23rd in college basketball when it comes to turnovers per game, with only 10.2 on average. Less enviably, the Gaels are 44th worst in college basketball in takeaways, with only 11.4 on average.
