Guard Coleton Benson joins the Army basketball 2021 recruiting class

On Wednesday, Combo Guard Coleton Benson out of James Bowie High School committed to the Army West Point basketball program.

“I told Coach (Jimmy) Allen and Coach Zak Boisvert Wednesday night,” said the 6-foot-1, 172 pounder, whose recruitment throughout has been handled by Coach Boisvert.

“I told Coach Allen that I will be committing to Army and he said how excited,” Benson said to GoBlackKnights.com. “He was and he also said that the commitment was huge for the program.”

During his 2019-20 junior season, Benson averaged 22 PPG, along with 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals per game, whereby he was 43% from the three-point stripe (133 made).

The prep bound guard indicated that his favorite basketball player is Kobe Bryant.

“Because of the mindset he had and he didn’t care who was in the way of him … he was going to get the job done,” declared Benson.

“I have not taken an in-person visit yet, but when it’s okay for me to be up there … I’m there,” said Benson. “I have had a virtual visit. The campus is beautiful, and the basketball facilities are on another level, also the weight room is insane. It will really take my game and have it skyrocket.”

“The future it holds for me is unmatched to any school in the country, high-level D1 basketball, the facilities are incredible, I feel a strong relationship with the coaches, and I really look forward to getting on campus ASAP,” he shared.
