Gary Payton II was diagnosed with a fractured elbow following the Golden State Warriors’ 106-101 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 2.
Payton was hit in the head by Dillon Brooks on a layup attempt with 9:08 left in the first quarter.
Brooks received a flagrant foul 2 and was ejected from the game.
Steve Kerr addressed the foul after the game, saying that Brooks “broke the code.”
“I don’t know if it was intentional, but it was dirty. Playoff basketball is supposed to be physical … But there is a code … that players follow. Where you never put a guy’s season, career in jeopardy by taking somebody out in mid-air and clubbing him across the head,” said Kerr.
Payton will undergo an MRI on Wednesday.
