Gary Payton II has been out of action since Game 2 of the second round series against the Grizzlies when Dillon Brooks committed a flagrant-2 foul on him which led to a fractured elbow.
The 29-year-old shooting guard was expected to make a return at some point during the NBA Finals. Since the Warriors made it this far into postseason, Payton II has a chance to return to playing basketball this year.
Ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals he was asked about his recovery. “Still got a lot of boxes to check off. Working every day to just get back out there and help my team. So, hopefully that time comes soon,” he said.
When asked to clarify what boxes he needs to check, Payton did not go into details. “Just got a few boxes. Not gonna speak on them. We’re not there yet, but we’re almost I feel like hopefully, hopefully,” the guard responded.
