President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s government is offering roughly $500,000 for information leading to the capture of ex-NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom.
“Enes Kanter Freedom is an inspiration who’s risking everything he has for what’s right. Turkey has placed Enes on their terrorist watch list with a bounty of $500,000 for speaking out on human rights issues in China and Turkey. Pretty insane. His bravery and patriotism is amazing,” Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL, wrote in a tweet.
Freedom became known for wearing sneakers with messages like “Free Tibet,” “Free Uyghur,” and “No Beijing 2022” during games. The big man said he was pressured by the NBA to take off his shoes and keep his mouth shut.
