Duke landed a commitment from five-star guard Tyrese Proctor on Thursday to cushion its standing as the clear No. 1 class in 2023. A day later on Friday evening, it added even more of a gap between it and the rest of the teams in the recruiting rankings, raking in yet another five-star as Mackenzie Mgbako picked the Blue Devils over Kentucky, Ohio State and Memphis.

Mgbako, the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle, is a 6-foot-8 small forward in New Jersey who has been regarded for well over a year as a top-10 talent in his class. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 1 prospect at his position.

Mgbako is the fourth five-star recruit to commit to Duke in the 2023 class, giving the program nearly 27% of the available five-stars in the cycle. 27%! His commitment is but the latest to Duke as part of an unreal recruiting run for coach Jon Scheyer, who is taking over in Durham for Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski.

Duke now has five commitments in the 2023 cycle all from top-30 talents and four from five-stars ranked in the top-25. Mgbako is the highest-rated in the bunch and the only who positionally aligns at the wing spot. Elsewhere in the class is five-star point guard Caleb Foster, five-star combo guard Tyrese Proctor, five-star shooting guard Jared McCain and four-star forward Sean Stewart.
