Draymond Thinks Bob Myers’ Name Should Be in the Rafters

Emotions were high when Bob Myers returned to Chase Center for the first time since stepping down as GM and Draymond Green thinks he deserves a place in the rafters.

Myers was welcomed back with open arms after he stepped down at the end of the 2022-23 season and has since taken up a role as an ESPN analyst.

He received a tribute video and shared a special moment with his three daughters as the Warriors got a 125-90 win over the Bucks.

Players like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond will likely get a spot in the rafters when they retire, but Green thinks Myers should also get the honor after everything he did in The Bay.

ā€œIt was great. Bob is, when you talk about this franchise and this dynasty that was built, and so oftentimes itā€™s the players that are mentioned,ā€ Green said. ā€œItā€™s Steph [Curry], itā€™s Klay [Thompson], itā€™s myself, itā€™s [Kevon Looney]. Itā€™s so oftentimes the players get the credit. But the work that Bob did ā€¦

ā€œItā€™s not (just) putting the teams together. For a basketball savant like Bob, thatā€™s the easy part. It was the work he did on the relationships. Every single day being in here, building relationships. From top to bottom. From the best player to the worst ā€¦ Thatā€™s the same guy when I was suspended for Game 5 (of the 2016 NBA Finals) didnā€™t come to the game, he came and sat with me and watched the game. Such a special, special soul and I think weā€™ve all been able to learn from him and to see him be celebrated tonight the way he should have.ā€

Green believes it is something that is bound to happen in the future, since Myers led the franchise to four championships in his 12 years there.

ā€œYou talk about jerseys getting retired, his will,ā€ Green shared. ā€œHis name will be up there in the rafters for what he brought to this organization when no one believed that this organization can be anything. It was a Bay Area native who came back after spending 20 years in LA to take the franchise he watched growing up, that he would go sit in the 200 [level] seats with his dad just to watch a game. It was him that had a vision and a belief that ā€˜I can go back there and lead a charge and take a franchise to the promised land.ā€™ The laughingstock of the NBA when he came back here.ā€
