Donovan Mitchell admitted that he thought he’d get traded to the New York Knicks during his introductory press conference with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I thought for sure I was going back home, I’m not gonna lie about that.
“But when I found out where I was headed, who I was playing with, the group, the team, the coaching staff, I couldn’t be more happier to be here,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell also added that he was surprised when he found out he was getting traded to the Cavs.
“Honestly, I had no idea. My agent AB (Austin Brown) called me on Wednesday and he said you’re going to Cleveland and, like I said, my reaction was what it was,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell would express his excitement of partnering with the Cavs’ young core, adding “to join these phenomenal guys and add to it, I think that, for me, is what I’m truly excited about.”
