Derrick White has broken his silence about the fight he was involved in at a CU-CSU game last week.
A video went viral on social media that showed White getting involved in a fight with fans last Saturday at a college football rivalry game between Colorado and Colorado State.
The footage shows a fan swinging his arm at White and knocking the hat off his head, then a huge melee ensued after that.
On Tuesday at Celtics media day, White was asked about this incident and seemed to downplay what went down.
“Obviously, the Colorado situation is unfortunate,” White told reporters. “I never thought I’d be in that situation, honestly. I didn’t actually get hit. He just hit my hat off. But I shouldn’t have been there, and it’s unfortunate. Just moving on.”
Contrary to what White says, witnesses claim he indeed got hit.
It was unclear to many what sparked the incident, but TMZ Sports say that it started when White got into “a bit of a verbal spat with some Rams fans”.
“In the third quarter—as it became clear White’s Buffs were likely going to win—the apparent arguing turned violent … as you can see in our video, a man in a CSU hat and a Utah shirt swung his arm into the side of White’s head,” TMZ report.
“The blow connected so hard—it knocked the hat right off White’s dome … and a huge skirmish then ensued.
“Multiple people raced in … and while White was pulled out of the mix quickly—nearly a dozen people pushed, shoved and put each other in headlocks for several moments.”
No doubt White will be looking to put the incident behind him heading into the 2024-25 season.
