Dennis Schroder is back in the City of Angels like he never left. Along in his return is the baggage of high hopes of what could be a season of redemption with the Los Angeles Lakers.
When asked about his conversation with LeBron James, Schroder confirmed that he had one with the franchise star.
“I can’t wait. I’ve been talking to him. I can’t wait to go back. I want to go for something this time,” Schroder told Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews.
“LeBron said he was glad he got me back,” Schroder added. “It’s unfinished business. That year when I was there, there were no fans. There was covid, everybody was hurt. This year hopefully, everything stays good, everybody stays healthy, and then we’ll try to go for something.”
Following their title year in 2020, things went downhill for the Lakers since then. Marred by injuries, inconsistencies and poor chemistry, they are certainly hoping that the forthcoming season will give a much better result with Schroder in town again.
After his strong showing of leading Germany to a Top 3 finish this recent EuroBasket, Schroder reconnects with the Lakers on a reported one-year, veteran’s minimum deal worth $2.6 million.
Hoping that he can have a Dwight Howard-like resurgence from them back in the 2019-2020 season, the 29-year-old guard is fully ecstatic of what lies ahead.
Even James didn’t hide his excitement of having the German veteran back in his camp again. Shortly after it was announced that he’ll be returning to the Purple and Gold, the future hall of famer has welcomed Schroder again with open arms.
“Yessir!! So damn happy to have you back!! You’re like that! LFG!!!,” James wrote recently in his Instagram story to greet Schroder back.
“I’ve been talking to the Lakers for the last three months. I knew I was going back, but I wanted to take my time,” Schroder said.
Schroder is landing on a much different Los Angeles team that he felt in the 2020-2021 season. With plenty of new faces around, he ultimately shares a collective goal with them of paving the road for the Lakers to be back on its purest form of a title contender.
