DeMarcus Cousins is fully supportive of Joel Embiid’s MVP case this 2022-2023 season.
The former NBA star and current free agent aired his support for the Philadelphia 76ers superstar in his conversation with Rachel Nicols of Showtime Basketball.
“I think the other two guys have had theirs,” Cousins said, referring to Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo. “Let’s reward the big fella.”
As such, Cousins made it known that he is campaigning for Embiid not because both Jokic and Antetokounmpo have already gained their own MVP plums, but because of his impact for the Sixers this year.
“If it’s just about the numbers and the season, it still leans toward Jo,” Cousins said. “He’s leading the league in scoring. He’s dominating at an all-time high.
“Give the big fella his flowers. He deserves it. He really deserves it.”
Embiid this year is rolling in hopes of finally clinching his first best player award, leading the league in points with 33.5 and has been dominant in the pain with his 10.2 boards average and 54.1 percent efficiency.
He is also powering Philadelphia to the third-best record in the East (46-22) and a potential deep postseason run soon in the playoffs.
Embiid’s case to become the league MVP this year has been further fortified by bettors, as he now ranks first in betting picks (+100) over Jokic (+160) and Antetokounmpo (+370) for the MVP award per Oddschecker.
