Cleveland Cavaliers point man Darius Garland won’t need surgery to address the left eye injury he sustained against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor reported.
Per Fedor, Garland underwent evaluations on Thursday and it was revealed that he has no structural damage.
As such, the Cavs will re-evaluate him for the next couple of days to determine his capabilities to play.
In the Cavs-Raps season opener, swingman Gary Trent Jr. accidentally poked Garland in the left eye with 3:51 to play in the first half. He eventually took a leave, announced unavailable to return and received laceration.
“His head was clear, and all those things, but he was cut and bleeding pretty bad from the inside of his eyelid,” said J.B. Bickerstaff after the game.
Garland ended up with four points and three assists in 13 minutes before his exit. The Cavs ultimately fell narrowly, 108-105, against the Raptors despite the hard carry of Donovan Mitchell.
