You don’t hold a team to 91 points on 37% shooting in this supercharged scoring NBA w/o stellar defense. The #Nuggets put on a clinic in contesting shots in their win over the Clippers, contesting 41. Also, 👀 Jamal Murray’s defense in space in a couple clips. Simply splendid. pic.twitter.com/Z0WmldMHxj1:57 AM

My question to Kawhi was: “Do you think there’s any chance that you will be able to play on both games of a back-to-back at any point this season?”
Kawhi: “Yeah, for sure. Trying to establish games with me hitting those high 30 min. marks… (cont.’d)” – 1:41 AM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Kawhi: “Nobody wants to lose by that amount of points… I feel like these are the times where we need to be in there and dig ourselves out those holes and learn what we’re doing instead of flipping the page and going to the next game.” – 1:36 AM

Kawhi: “We have to play harder, play faster, with some urgency, really. Us not making shots tonight beat us and put us in a hole. But it shows us where we need to get better at, for sure.” – 1:34 AM
Andrew Greif @AndrewGreif
Postgame, Kawhi said that he would like to at some point play both ends of a back-to-back toward a goal of “trying to establish games with me hitting those high 30-minute marks.” Didn’t sound, to me anyway, like tomorrow would be that first B2B. – 1:34 AM

Kawhi Leonard said he felt better today than he did Monday when he missed the Heat game. Said he couldn’t get out of bed due to flu-like symptoms. – 1:32 AM

After tonight, Clippers are 1-5 against the five teams above them in the West.
And they’re 2-5 against the teams ranked in the 7-10 Play-In range.
They have yet to play #2 Grizzlies this season, the only West team to sweep them last season. – 1:25 AM

A lot of what has hurt the Clippers has been beyond their control — injuries at the top of the list. But what that LAC can control do they need to improve on?
Kawhi: “Play harder, play faster, play smarter, move the basketball. It’s a lot of hero basketball going on.” – 1:09 AM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Kawhi Leonard tonight said that he’s open to playing both ends of back to backs at some point. That’s a goal of his. Don’t think it happens tomorrow.
Also mentioned Clippers have to play harder and faster. And that there was some “hero ball” tonight.

It is easy to sum this game up to the Clippers letting go of the rope quickly and things getting bad fast, but I think this has more to do with Denver punching first and not relenting than the Clippers folding.
It was Denver who cornered them and forced them to break. – 11:43 PM

Denver led by as many as 43, lead 90-55 with 3:21 left in 3rd quarter.

The starters got buried, but the bench is finding another six feet.
Denver up 50-23 with 7:14 left in first half. 7-0 run capped by Vlatko Cancar channeling Uncle Jeff. – 10:40 PM
Andrew Greif @AndrewGreif
Vlatko poster dunk ends an 8-0 Denver run and the Clippers trail 50-23.
The Clippers are shooting 6-10 inside the paint and **1-17 outside of it** – 10:40 PM
Harrison Wind @HarrisonWind
The Nuggets came to play tonight. The Clippers came to collect their game check. – 10:40 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Jeff Green got hurt and Vlatko Cancar took over the “highlight dunk of the game” role. – 10:39 PM
Michael Singer @msinger
It’s 50-23 with 7:14 left in the second quarter, and Vlatko Cancar just detonated. – 10:39 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Denver is up TWENTY SEVEN with 7:14 left before half. – 10:39 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Vlatko Cancar my god. That dunk was from outside the paint. – 10:39 PM

Ty Lue is letting the Nuggets cook lol – 10:37 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
GREAT defense by Vlatko Cancar to force the turnover and lead to KCP’s second-straight 3. – 10:37 PM
Ryan Blackburn @NBABlackburn
Uh…the Nuggets lead by 23. – 10:35 PM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Clippers shot 3/6 FGs in paint, 1/15 FGs outside of paint in first quarter in Denver – 10:34 PM

A 32-15 first quarter in favor of the Nuggets?? WHAT A START ON BOTH ENDS – 10:33 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Clippers try to throw the ball off Vlatko to get possession, but he catches the ball and dimes up Brown for 3. Nuggets up by 20. – 10:33 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Gotta give Michael Porter Jr. some credit. He did not shoot well in the first quarter (0-4), but had 4 boards and gave good effort on defense. He is finding ways to not hurt the Nuggets despite his lack of scoring. – 10:32 PM

Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Worst first quarter of the season for Clippers as Denver leads 32-15.
Jamal Murray made more FGs (5/6) than entire Clippers team (4/21).
Also made more 3s (3/3) than entire Clippers team (1/11).
That pretty much sums it up. – 10:32 PM
Michael Singer @msinger
#Nuggets up 32-15 after the first quarter. Jamal’s got 13, AG’s got 8, and Denver’s bench is working.
Clippers shooting … 19% and 1-of-11 from 3. PG and Kawhi a combined 0 for 7 from the field. – 10:30 PM

I wish Denver had more built into their bench playbook, but you take a 17-point lead every time and don’t complain about it at all. – 10:28 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Vlatko Cancar is 27-52 from 3 including that last triple which is 51.9%. – 10:27 PM
Andrew Greif @AndrewGreif
It’s danger-zone time for the Clippers, trailing 32-13 late in the first quarter. Never a good sign when the opponent has twice as many assists (8) as the Clippers have field goals (4). – 10:27 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Bones Hyland hits a 3 as soon as Jokic leaves the game and Nnaji follows with a block that led to a Vlatko 3. That will help keep the bench unit rolling. – 10:25 PM
Michael Singer @msinger
I’ve reported this before: Bones thought he was going to be a Clipper on draft night. – 10:25 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Jokic with 5 assists in his 10 first quarter minutes. – 10:25 PM
Keith Smith @KeithSmithNBA
Clippers have way too much talent to hit these long offensive lulls the way they do. – 10:24 PM

Porter out as Murray stays in . Looks like MPJ or KCP will stagger with the bench tonight. – 10:23 PM
Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU
Kawhi stays in with:
– T Mann
– Luke
– Norm
– RoCo – 10:22 PM
Andrew Greif @AndrewGreif
Terance Mann and Bruce Brown both on the floor in the final minutes of this first half. Their friendship is pretty cool: First met at an 8th grade camp, then teamed up in AAU, later played against one another for a HS state championship in Massachusetts. – 10:22 PM

It’s dammit time already. Denver up 25-13 with 3:16 left, Kawhi/PG are both 0/3 FGs, and Clippers have missed 8 of 9 3s.
Jamal Murray has matched Clippers with 13 points and has more made buckets (Murray: 5/6 FGs; LAC: 4/16 FGs) – 10:21 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Jamal Murray has 13 points while the Clippers as a team have 13 points.
Nuggets up 25-13 with 3:16 left in the first quarter. – 10:20 PM

TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
With Murray cooking, I wonder if Porter gets pushed to stagger with the bench instead. Would be a helpful switch and would open up some Christian Braun minutes as well. – 10:17 PM
Andrew Greif @AndrewGreif
The first Clipper off the bench is Luke Kennard, who relieves Paul George after 6 1/2 minutes for PG. – 10:16 PM
Ryan Blackburn @NBABlackburn
KCP goes to the bench early instead of Jamal Murray.
Might have been Jamal, but Malone talked about rhythm with him, and he’s got it now. – 10:16 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Jesus Jamal Murray. That is 4-5 to start tonight and 10 points halfway through the first quarter. – 10:16 PM
Michael Singer @msinger
Jamal Murray’s got that bounce … 10 points in 6 minutes. – 10:15 PM

Denver’s getting a little lucky on the shooting variance here, but the Clippers are settling for no rhythm jumpers a ton of the time. Good start defensively. – 10:12 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Denver’s physicality on the perimeter tonight on defense has been very good. They are containing well and keeping everyone in front of them which is forcing the Clippers to play side to side instead of getting downhill. – 10:11 PM
TJ McBride @TJMcBrideNBA
Impressive defensive start by the Nuggets. Clippers are 1-8 from the field and have gotten 4 of their 7 points at the foul line.

Buckets from Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon (x2) have the Nuggets out to a 6-0 lead over the Clippers. You would know this if you’re watching TNT. – 10:05 PM
