Cleveland Resting Their Starters. Magic vs. Cavaliers Preview, Odds & Predictions

The Cavs (50-30) and Magic (34-45) face off again after the Cavs beat the Magic on the road 117-113 last game. In their last road game of the season, the Cavs are hoping to head back to Cleveland having swept the regular season series. The game is scheduled to tipoff Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 07:00 PM ET.

The Magic are expected to win by a comfortable margin, heavy favorites by an 8.5 point spread.

MATCH PREVIEW

Following Donovan Mitchell’s impressive 43-point performance in their previous game against the Magic, the Cavs will now face them in their upcoming matchup. However, with Cleveland resting their starters in preparation of their tough upcoming playoff series against the Knicks, the Magic could save themselves the embarrassment of suffering a sweep in the regular season series.

Cleveland is expected to rest Mitchell along with teammates Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland, and Evan Mobley until the playoffs. The decision will mean fans will most like see a starting line up consisting of Ricky Rubio, Raul Neto, Cedi Osman, Dean Wade, and Lamar Stevens.

On the other side, the Magic are not expected to shut down any of their players for the final two games of the season, including coveted frontrunner for ROTY Paolo Banchero, who has frequently drawn comparisons to LeBron James in the past. Paolo Banchero is currently the top performer for the Magic, averaging 20.0 points per game along with 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Franz Wagner has also been performing well, averaging 19.0 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 48.0% over the last 10 games for Orlando.

ODDS AND PREDICTIONS

The Orlando Magic have been performing exceptionally well against the spread (ATS) in their recent games. They have managed to go 9-0-1 ATS in their last 10 games, as well as 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 games. The team has shown great resilience, as they have a perfect 10-0-1 ATS record in their last 11 games when their opponent has scored 100 or more points in their previous game. They have also performed particularly well in home games, going 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 and 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 home games against a team with a losing road record. So far this season, Orlando has gone 22-17-1 ATS at home.

The Cavaliers are outscoring opponents by 5.3 points per game, with a +428 scoring differential overall. They allow only 107.1 opposition points per contest (first in league). However taking into account the impact of Cleveland resting their starters, the Orlando Magic are rightfully considered the heavy favorites in this upcoming matchup.

Spread: Magic -8.5

Moneyline: Magic -310, Cavaliers +248

Pick: Magic -8.5
