Christian Wood has played the best basketball of his career since joining the Dallas Mavericks this past offseason. Wood is averaging 17.3 points on 54/38/71 shooting splits. Wood is also grabbing eight rebounds and blocking a shot per night.
After dropping in 30 points, while grabbing eight boards and handing out seven assists, on Christmas, Wood was asked about being extension-eligible with the Mavericks.
“I’m happy to be here,” Wood told ESPN. “That’s what I’ll say. The vibe is good. … I’m open to it.”
When asked if he’d need to get the maximum of four years, Wood laughed and said, “I can’t answer that.”
Because enough time has now elapsed since Wood was traded to the Mavs from the Houston Rockets, he’s eligible to sign an extension worth $77 million over four years. If no extension is reached, Wood will be one of the better unrestricted free agents available this summer.
