Despite drawing consideration amongst many due to his uncanny knowledge of the game as one of the greatest point guards ever, Chris Paul doesn’t see himself holding a drawing board while being on the sidelines to call shots for players following his illustrious career.
As he recently appeared on The Shop, Paul was inquired about potentially being a head coach, but he quickly dismissed it with the length of travel being an issue for him.
“No,” Paul said about being a coach, per Caitlyn Holroyd of theScore. “Honestly, I’ll tell you, I don’t wanna travel like that.”
Paul has coaching experience handling AAU teams, specifically his Team CP3, and he believes that it’s much better to manage younger players than the professionals in the NBA.
“That’s why I love AAU, ’cause you get a chance to actually mold kids at an early age. ‘Cause when we get to the NBA, we ain’t trying to hear none of that shit,” Paul said. “For real, you get to the NBA, I mean, I can’t imagine coaching us ’cause we feel like we know everything.”
Garnering 32 percent votes, Paul was ranked No. 1 for the active player who would make the best head coach one day in the NBA GM survey prior to the 2022-23 season.
Paul’s future in the Phoenix Suns is yet to be determined as the franchise continues to contemplate its options with the future Hall of Famer. He averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 dimes last year.
