Canada emerged as the victors of the 34th DBB Super Cup, triumphing over Germany in a captivating FIBA World Cup preparation game. In a suspense-filled contest Canada secured a 113-112 (20:26, 25:23, 33:38, 23:14, 12:11) victory after overtime.
The game saw Canada in a nail-biting situation, trailing 101-96 with under a minute left in the fourth quarter. RJ Barrett, who had game-high 31 points in this game, delivered a heroic performance, slashing through the defense to score crucial points and send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Kelly Olynyk’s game-saving block sealed the deal, solidifying Canada’s comeback victory and earning them the DBB Super Cup title.
Barrett’s exceptional performance led the way, notching an impressive 31 points on 13-of-14 shooting, with an impeccable 4-of-4 record from beyond-the-arc. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander contributed 25 points, eight rebounds, and six steals, while Olynyk added 21 points.
The win marked a bounce-back for Canada following their earlier 86-81 loss to Germany in the first exhibition game.
Canada will now travel to Spain to face the hosts and the Dominican Republic in their final World Cup tune-ups. Meanwhile, Germany will travel to Abu Dhabi for two games against Greece and Team USA.
