The Lakers are aiming high as they head into their Tuesday game against the Jazz in Salt Lake City, with four games remaining in the Western Conference.
While LAL still need to secure a playoff spot, this new roster has their sights set on a championship and plan to compete at the highest level.
As the regular season winds down, the Lakers are optimistic they will be able to secure one of the final two guaranteed playoff spots – currently held by the Warriors and Clippers.
With a 40-38 record they are tied with the New Orleans for seventh place in the conference and need one win to secure a play-in opportunity.
The Lakers come into this game having won three straight and six of their last seven games. Their most recent victory against Houston saw the Lakers show signs of things to come, with their new coveted line-up led by Anthony Davis who scored 40 points and James, who had a casual triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
Meanwhile, the Jazz, who were not considered to be playoff contenders coming into this season, are still in with a chance despite losing six of their last seven games.
They have a tough challenge to make postseason play, with Utah 1.5 games behind 10th place Oklahoma City (38-41) and a half-game back of Dallas (37-42).
All hard feats to overcome for a young team who are confirmed to be without star Jordan Clarkson, paint enforcer Walker Kessler and All-Star Lauri Markkanen has also been ruled out with a hand injury.

The betting trends are telling a convincing story, the Lakers have been successful with a 5-1 against the spread record in their last six road games, 19-8 against the spread in their last 27 games against teams with losing records, and 5-1 against the spread in their last six overall games.
Comparably, the Jazz have struggled at home with a 3-7-1 against the spread record in their last 11 home games. However, the Jazz have played up to their competitors, performing well against teams with winning records, going 8-2-2 against the spread in their last 12 games.
In their only two head-to-head matchups this season, LA have struggled to keep the games close, let alone come away with a win.
The Lakers suffered a 116-130 loss at home followed by a 139-116 blowout on the road. Combined with the possibility of LeBron James (questionable) sitting out, there is concern for the Lakers to cover the spread. However even without James, the purple and gold have been playing well and should not only be able to win, but also cover the hefty spread comfortably.
