After a challenging season for the Detroit Pistons, where they finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 17 wins and 65 losses, there is newfound hope in the Motor City. The source of that optimism? Cade Cunningham, the talented young star and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Cunningham’s sophomore year was marred by injuries, limiting him to just 12 games due to a season-ending surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left shin.
However, in those appearances, he showcased his potential, averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6 assists in 33.3 minutes per game.
As he looks ahead to the future, the 21-year-old point guard is setting his sights on a brighter path for the Pistons. While he keeps his personal goals private, one thing he is vocal about is his desire to lead Detroit closer to championship contention.
“Of course, being healthy and available for my team, that’s the biggest goal,” Cunningham said, per Tomer Azarly of Clutch Points. “And then most importantly, just winning games. I want to take a leap next year and get closer to being a championship-caliber team.”
