“He’s anxious to get back,” Bulls’ head coach Billy Donovan said Friday, via ESPN.
“Physically, he feels good. He knows the timing part is going to take a little bit of time. But I think just how he feels and where he’s at mentally, he wants to come back and play.”
The Bulls – losers of eight of their past ten games – desperately need Williams to help fix holes on the defensive end.
Currently, the Bulls rank 20th in defensive rating, per the NBA.
The Bulls made moves to improve their defense; namely the signings of Alex Caruso, Lonzo Ball, Derrick Jones Jr., and Tristan Thompson – but they haven’t made enough of an impact to warrant significant improvement.
Williams, the fourth pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, is a versatile wing defender with a seven-foot wingspan.
Oh, and he’s also a career 40% three-point shooter.
Williams missed most of this season with a wrist injury.
If Williams continues to develop on the offensive end of the floor, the Bulls will have a legitimate chance to make noise in the Eastern Conference.
