Disney CEO Bob Chapek said that the company would “love to be in business with the NBA” with a new TV rights deal as long as it could be done in a “fiscally responsible way.”
In speaking during a quarterly earnings call on Tuesday, Chapek added that Disney would also be looking for multiplatform rights in the deal.
The current TV deal between the two sides is set to expire after the 2024-25 season, with the NBA reportedly looking for up to $75 billion on the next contract.
In referring to ESPN not renewing its deal with the Big Ten, Chapek said that Disney recognizes “that we don’t need everything, we just need the right thing.”
Chapek added that the linear and streaming flexibility of a multiplatform deal is a strategic priority for the company.
