Bayern Munich will meet with Zalgiris Kaunas for the fifth round of the 2021-22 EuroLeague. The German Cup winners have yet to get their first win in the competition.
Bayern’s big Augustine Rubit will face his former team, for the first time since he joined the German powerhouse. Rubit played for one season in Kaunas.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the people from the organization again and of course the great fans there,” said Rubit before the Thursday’s contest.
“Last season we didn’t have the opportunity to play in front of a full house, it’s going to be exciting. But both teams desperately need a win, so there is sure to be a big fight. We want to win him.”
The last time both clubs faced each other was on Apr. 1st, when FC Bayern secured a historic 70-71 win to secure a playoff berth for the first time in the history of the club.
Bayern will miss three key players in Paul Zipser, Vladimir Lucic and Leon Radocevic, however, they could have Andreas Obst available for the first time in EuroLeague this season.
“We will experience a great atmosphere in a full arena in Kaunas,” said Trinchieri before team’s departure on Wednesday. “We have to show our best possible game there in order to survive.
It will be a difficult game and one away again, which is not ideal in our personal situation. But we want to play hard and smart and improve. We have to focus on ourselves.”
