Unicaja and Alberto Diaz (188-G-1994) have agreed to extend the captain’s contract with Malaga until June 2028. ‘Diaz will continue to be a key part of the team, where he will once again break records and be a benchmark in sportsmanship and professionalism. He’s a top driver for the project!’ according to the official statement. The 29-year-old playmaker began his professional career at Clinicas Rincon, an affiliate team of Unicaja. He played simultaneously with both teams until March 2014, when he was loaned to Bilbao Basket, where he remained until the end of the 2013-14 season. Diaz was loaned again for the following season, this time to Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, a team that finished in last place in the 2014-15 ACB season. Finally, in the summer of 2015, he returned to Unicaja, securing a permanent role in the team during the 2015-16 season and now facing his ninth consecutive season with the first team. During the last season, Diaz participated in 14 Basketball Champions League games, averaging 2.9 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.4 rebounds. In the ACB League, he averaged 4.9 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 rebounds. This summer, he played five matches at the FIBA World Cup, averaging 4.6 points, 2.6 assists, and two rebounds for the Spanish national team, which reached the second stage of the competition.
