Talented Rares Basescu (2004) had a great game in the last round for Politehnica Iasi and that’s him to receive a Hoops Agents Liga I Player of the Week award for round 14 (Second Stage).
The 18-year old had a double-double of 45 points and eleven rebounds, while his team outclassed Sibiu 2 (#5, 5-9) with 46-point margin 109-63. Politehnica Iasi maintains the 4th position in Romanian Liga I. Politehnica Iasi is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. But it was their 7th lost game this season out of 14 games. In the team’s last game Basescu had a remarkable 88.2% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 11 attempts. It’s his second year at Politehnica Iasi and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Rares Basescu averages this season 13.0ppg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was American power forward Ajay Singh (199-PF, agency: Haylett Sports) of second-ranked Rm Valcea II. Singh impressed basketball fans with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Of course he led Rm Valcea II to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Craiova 2 (#7, 4-10) 108-53. Rm Valcea II’s second position in the standings has not changed. His team’s 11-3 record is not bad at all. Singh is a newcomer at Rm Valcea II and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team’s leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 21.2ppg (#3). He also registered 7.2 boards per game.
The third best performed player last round was Mihnea-Tudor Brie (196-C-2001) of Cluj CSU (#6). Brie scored 23 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Cluj CSU, leading his team to a 70-67 win against slightly lower-ranked Laguna (#8, 1-13). Cluj CSU can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 4-10 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Brie has individually a great season in Romania. After 25 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 18.9ppg (7th best) and rebounds with 12.5rpg (2nd best).

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it’s accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) – 2*BSAG – 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM – 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) – 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) – (FTA-FTM)
