Russian Center Aleksandr Shashkov (211-C-2000) had a great game in the last round for Ilirija, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 24.
The 22-year old player had a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat LTH Castings (#9, 7-17) 95-80. Ilirija maintains the 6th position in Slovenian Liga Nova KBM. Ilirija is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 11-13 record. In the team’s last game Shashkov had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He turned to be Ilirija’s top player in his first season with the team. Aleksandr Shashkov has solid league stats. He is in league’s top in rebounds (7th best: 6.3rpg) and averages impressive 57.7% FGP and 44.2% from behind 3-point line.
The second best player in last round’s games was young American Adrio Bailey (197-F-1997) of Zlatorog. Bailey had a very good evening with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Zlatorog lost that game 80-85 to slightly higher-ranked Hopsi Polzela (#8, 8-16). Zlatorog is still in a red zone at 10th spot in the standings. 18 lost games are too many comparing to just six victories Zlatorog managed to get this year. Bailey is a newcomer at Zlatorog, but is already one of team’s top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.2ppg (#5). He also registered 7.2 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was Bosnia and Herzegovina forward Simo Atanackovic (207-F-1990) of Terme Olimia (#5). Atanackovic scored 26 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite Atanackovic’s great performance Terme Olimia lost 81-86 to the higher-ranked Helios Suns (#2, 20-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Terme Olimia ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 13 games, recording just eleven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Atanackovic could help Terme Olimia to bring them higher in the standings. Atanackovic has a great season in Slovenia. After 23 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 17.1ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 6.3rpg (8th best). Simo Atanackovic has also Slovenian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
