The Second Stage in Top Division I just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
There was a change at the Top Division I leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 6 was a defeat of league’s leader Lommel (3-1). They were defeated by first ranked Waregem (5-1) 80-68 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lommel. Waregem forced 19 Lommel turnovers. Point guard Lars De Lepeleire (178-1991) scored 9 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Aaron Van Vooren (200-1994) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Waregem’s coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Bram Schelkens (182-1998) with 25 points and 6 rebounds. Waregem have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-1 record. Lommel at the other side dropped to the third place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by LDP Donza.
Important game to mention about took place in Boechout. Fourth ranked Oxaco (2-2) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Neufchateau (2-3) 107-105 in the game for the fourth place. Forward Bert Van De Broek (201) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and Vic Van Oosterwyck supported him with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Oxaco’s coach Steve Cornelis allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 21 points and 8 rebounds by forward Lucas Demoulin (193) did not help to save the game for Neufchateau. Oxaco maintains fourth position with 2-2 record which they share with defeated Neufchateau. Newly promoted Neufchateau dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Boechout. 4th ranked host Oxaco (2-2) lost to first ranked Waregem (5-1) 88-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Oxaco. There were no shocking results in the other games in round 6: Kontich won against Spirou B on the opponent’s court 82-78. Limburg B managed to outperform Spirou B in a home game 72-63. Neufchateau recorded a loss to Limburg B on the road 81-66. Giants B was crushed by Kortrijk on its own court 60-83. LDP Donza beat Melsele in De Pinte 74-64. Gembo BBC lost to Royal Brussels at home 66-81. Guco Lier unfortunately lost to Ieper on the opponent’s court 67-77. Neufchateau managed to beat Kontich in a home game 100-82.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 30 points and 11 rebounds by Mathis Bizimana of Neufchateau.
Oxaco – Neufchateau 107-105
Important game to mention about took place in Boechout. Fourth ranked Oxaco (2-2) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Neufchateau (2-3) 107-105 in the game for the fourth place. Oxaco made 25-of-30 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Neufchateau was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Bert Van De Broek (201) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and point guard Vic Van Oosterwyck (185-2000) supported him with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Rather expected game in Charleroi where bottom-ranked Spirou B (0-6) was defeated by fifth ranked Kontich (1-3) 82-78 on Friday. The best player for the winners was Lander Kuijt (192-1998) who scored 27 points and 5 assists. Gregory De Pooter (197-1984) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was French power forward Craig Adzeh (206-2003) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and forward Adedayo Polet (188-2005) added 20 points and 5 assists respectively. Spirou B’s coach Marc Delporte tried various players’ combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn’t help. Despite that victory Kontich went down to sixth position due to points difference, which they share with Gembo BBC. It was Spirou B’s sixth loss in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost.
