First defeat of league’s leader Melsele (3-1) against seventh ranked Ieper (1-3) 83-79 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Melsele. Guard Anton DHerck (190-1998) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Alexander Schepens (194-1993) contributed with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Center Leroy Anthonis (206-1990) answered with 14 points and 6 rebounds for Melsele. Ieper left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Royal Brussels and Guco Lier. Melsele at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Kortrijk and Waregem. They were replaced at the leadership position by Lommel.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Lommel as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Lommel smashed bottom-ranked Spirou B at home 97-69. Matts De Keuster (198-1999) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Toon Wesenbeek chipped in 13 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Forward Adedayo Polet (188-2005) responded with 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lommel have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with LDP Donza. Spirou B at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Spirou B will play next round against strong Limburg B trying to get back on the winning streak. Lommel will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Waregem on the road.
Undefeated Limburg B (2-1) recorded its first loss on the court of sixth ranked Neufchateau on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Neufchateau 84-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Limburg B. Hugo Deneve nailed 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Wout Leemans came up with 22 points for Limburg B in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Neufchateau (1-1) left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with Oxaco. Loser Limburg B dropped to the third position with one game lost. Neufchateau will again meet higher ranked Limburg B (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Limburg B will play against Spirou B and hope to secure a win.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: Gembo BBC was smashed by Kortrijk on the road 100-67. Royal Brussels destroyed Giants B on its own court 73-49. LDP Donza managed to outperform Guco Lier in De Pinte 80-64. Winless Kontich was rolled over Waregem at home 69-89.
The most impressive performance of 5th round was 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by Gregory De Pooter of Kontich.
Kortrijk – Gembo BBC 100-67
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Kortrijk (3-1) crushed at home 5th ranked Gembo BBC (1-2) 100-67 on Friday. Kortrijk dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Gembo BBC’s 22. Kortrijk forced 19 Gembo BBC turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Croatian-American guard Nikolas Tomsick (183-1991, college: Fort Lewis) nailed 36 points (!!!) for the winning side and Mathieu Coucke (197-2000) accounted for 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Kortrijk players scored in double figures. Cameroonian center Jean-Patrick Nyamsi (198-1993) came up with 12 points and 7 rebounds and center Arno Mollekens (196-1994) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Gembo BBC in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kortrijk moved-up to second place, which they share with Waregem and Melsele. Loser Gembo BBC keeps the fifth position with two games lost.

There was an upset when 4th placed Giants B (2-2) was smashed on the road by eighth ranked Royal Brussels (1-3) 73-49 on Saturday. Royal Brussels forced 19 Giants B turnovers. Center Anael Ahanda (196-1995) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Simon-Pierre Massambombo (-2004) accounted for 12 points. Four Royal Brussels players scored in double figures. Royal Brussels’ coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Seppe Willems (202-1999) came up with 10 points and 6 rebounds and guard Noah Meeusen (189-2005) added 13 points respectively for Giants B in the defeat. Royal Brussels left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Ieper and Guco Lier. Newly promoted Giants B keeps the fourth position with two games lost.
