Jakub Sirina
International Point guard Jakub Sirina (186-PG-1987, agency: Octagon Europe) had an amazing evening in the last round for Opava, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1 (Second Stage).
The 35-year old player tried to help (31 points, eight rebounds and five assists) his team in a lost game to Nymburk (#2, 16-7) 77-91. Opava was forced-out from the top positions in Czech Republic NBL. Opava is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. But it was their 11th lost game this season out of 23 games. In the team’s last game Sirina had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He has many years of experience at Opava, through which he has constantly improved. Jakub Sirina has solid league stats. He is in league’s top in assists (2nd best: 7.1apg) and averages impressive 53.2% FGP.
The second best player in last round’s games was young Montenegrin Maksim Sturanovic (210-C-1988, agency: 011 Sports) of Hradec Kralove. Sturanovic had a very good evening with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Hradec Kralove lost that game 88-106 to USK Praha (11-12). The Second Stage is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let’s wait for the next round. Sturanovic is a newcomer at Hradec Kralove, but is already one of team’s top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Ty Nichols (190-G-1996) of Decin (#3). Nichols got into 30-points club by scoring 31 points in the last round. He went also for five assists. He was a key player of Decin, leading his team to a 95-86 win against #1 ranked Brno in a game of the week. Decin needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 15 victories and 8 lost games. Nichols has a great season in Czech Republic. After 21 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 18.9ppg (2nd best). He also has 2.6spg and FGP: 54.3%.
