Orfeas Stasinos

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Maroussi as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Maroussi defeated 9th ranked Megaridas in Athens 76-69. Maroussi made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Orfeas Stasinos (183-1988) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 5 assists and Vasileios Stavrakoukas (191-2001, agency: Octagon Europe) who added 22 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Jackson Dubinski (185-1996, college: Columbia, MO, agency: Mansfield and Associates) responded with 9 points and 7 assists. Megaridas’ coach Giorgos Mandalos rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Maroussi have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Panerythraikos. Newly promoted Megaridas keeps the ninth place with seven games lost. Megaridas will play next round against strong Iraklis trying to get back on the winning streak. Maroussi will try to continue on its current victory against fourteenth ranked Aias Evosmou on the road.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Iraklis (10-6) in Thessaloniki. Hosts were defeated by Panerythraikos (11-5) 87-76. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The winners were led by power forward Manolis Matalliotakis (202-1994) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and Alexandros Stamatogiannis supported him with 9 points and 12 rebounds. Even 14 points and 6 rebounds by point guard Nontas Papantoniou (192-1990) did not help to save the game for Iraklis. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panerythraikos keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Maroussi. Iraklis at the other side dropped to the fourth place with six games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Panerythraikos will play against Amyntas (#15) in Athens in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Iraklis will play on the road against Megaridas (#9) in Megara and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Koroivos was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Psychikou (9-7) played at the court of eighth ranked Koroivos (10-6). Koroivos defeated Psychikou 85-72 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Psychikou. Julien Lewis fired 19 points and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. Ioannis Athanasoulas produced 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Psychikou’s coach Giorgos Remendelas tested twelve players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Koroivos have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Psychikou dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Koroivos will meet AO Triton (#6) in the next round. Psychikou will play against Kavalas and hope to secure a win.
