Daryl Macon
27-year old guard Daryl Macon (190-G-1995) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked UNICS and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1 (Second Stage).
He had the game-high 31 points adding two rebounds and two assists for UNICS in his team’s victory, helping them to edge out N.Novgorod (#5, 13-11) 86-85. UNICS maintains the 2nd position in VTB United League . They are still close to the very top. UNICS would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 21-3 record. In the team’s last game Macon had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be UNICS’s top player in his first season with the team. The University of Arkansas graduate has very impressive stats this year. Macon is in league’s top in points (2nd best: 18.9ppg) and averages solid 54.5% FGP and 48.3% from behind 3-point line.
Second best performed player last round was Malik Newman (190-G-1997) of Avtodor. He is American guard in his first season at Avtodor. In the last game Newman recorded impressive 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Of course Avtodor cruised to a 93-83 relatively comfortable win over Samara (9-14). The Second Stage is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let’s wait for the next round. Newman is a newcomer at Avtodor and quickly became one of team’s most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.9ppg (#1).
Third place about best performers goes to guard Marcos Knight (191-G-1989, agency: Slash Sports) of Samara (#8). Knight got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. Despite Knight’s great performance Samara lost 83-93 to Avtodor (#9, 8-15). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Samara not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 14 games, recording just nine victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Knight could try to bring Samara’s a little bit higher in the standings. Knight has individually a great season in VTB United League. After 23 games, he made it on the list of the league’s leaders in points with 16.8ppg (5th best). He also has FGP: 53.7% and 3PT: 42.9%.
