Gambian Center Babacar Mbye (212-C-2002) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for ASVEL, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 18.
The 20-year old player had a double-double of 27 points and 26 rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league’s bottom-ranked team Paris BA (#18, 0-17) with 49-point margin 100-51. ASVEL is placed at 3rd position in French ProA U21. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost a few games earlier this season. ASVEL will need more victories to improve their 13-4 record. It’s Mbye’s second year at ASVEL and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Babacar Mbye has solid league stats. He is in league’s top in rebounds (2nd best: 11.5rpg) and averages impressive 64.0% FGP.

The second best player in last round’s games was young Bilal Coulibaly (196-G-2004) of Levallois. Coulibaly had a very good evening with a double-double of 37 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Levallois was edged by the lower-ranked Fos-Provence (#11, 8-10) 80-79. This loss caused Levallois to drop to 4th position in the standings. His team’s 13-5 record is not bad at all. Coulibaly is a newcomer at Levallois, but is already one of team’s top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 21.9ppg (#1). He also registered 6.4 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Mathis Courbon (189-G-2005) of Roanne (#5). Courbon scored 29 points. He was a key player of Roanne, leading his team to a 76-70 win against the lower-ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (#9, 8-9). Roanne needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 13 victories and 5 lost games. Courbon has a very solid season. In 16 games in France he scored 10.7ppg. He also has FGP: 58.3% and 3PT: 48.0%.

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it’s accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) – 2*BSAG – 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM – 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) – 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) – (FTA-FTM)
