The biggest surprise of round 7 in U18 League was guest Zalgiris II’s (5-2) easy road victory over 5th ranked Panevezio (4-3) 104-81 on Sunday evening. The game without a history. Zalgiris II led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Zalgiris II outrebounded Panevezio 63-40 including a 25-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Arminas Bareckas (-2005) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Liutauras Serkevicius (-2005) chipped in 29 points. Arnas Stankevicius (-2005) produced 24 points and 4 assists for lost side. Zalgiris II moved-up to fifth place. Panevezio at the other side dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Zalgiris II are looking forward to face higher ranked SKM I (#4) in Vilniaus in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panevezio will play on the road against the league’s leader VKKM in Vilniaus and is hoping to win this game.
Marijampoles can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Birzu (1-6) 86-74. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Adrijus Janciauskas (181-2005) who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Augustas Merkys contributed with 18 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Guard Dovydas Kacinskas (185-2005) answered with 26 points and 8 rebounds for Birzu. Marijampoles (1-5) left bottom position moving up to tenth place. It was Birzu’s sixth loss in a row. They keep the eleventh position with six games lost. Marijampoles will play against higher ranked Tornado KM (#9) in Kaunas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Birzu will have a break next round.
Birzu can celebrate finally their first win this season after six consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Plunges (0-8) 80-77 on Wednesday. It was a great evening for Dovydas Kacinskas who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. At the losing side Rokas Kreismontas responded with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Birzu maintains eleventh place with 1-6 record. It was Plunges’ eighth loss in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Saule defeated Plunges in Siauliai 97-84. SKM I beat Perkunas at home 97-84. VKKM won against Zalgiris I on the opponent’s court 80-74. VKM managed to outperform Tornado KM in a home game 83-65.
The best stats of 7th round was 22 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals by Erikas Vansevicius of VKM.

Marijampoles – Birzu 86-74

Marijampoles can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Birzu (1-6) 86-74. Birzu was ahead by 4 points after three quarters before a 30-14 charge of Marijampoles, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Adrijus Janciauskas (181-2005) who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Point guard Augustas Merkys (194-2005) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Guard Dovydas Kacinskas (185-2005) answered with 26 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Danielius Mulevicius (195-2006) added 19 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Birzu. Plunges – Saule 84-97

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Plunges (0-8) was defeated at home by third ranked Saule (6-2) 97-84 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Saule. Plunges managed to win fourth quarter 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saule looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for point guard Deividas Zukauskas (162-2005) who led his team to a victory scoring 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Joris Kacinskas (-2005) helped adding 16 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Saule’s coach Arunas Kacerauskas used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side point guard Nojus Radzius (174-2005) responded with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals (made all of his seven free throws) and swingman Rokas Kreismontas (191-2006) scored 16 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Saule have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 6-2 record having just one point less than leader VKKM. Loser Plunges still closes the standings with eight games lost. Saule will meet at home Zalgiris I (#7) in the next round. Plunges will have a break next round.

No shocking result in a game in Vilniaus where fourth ranked SKM I (5-1) defeated 8th ranked Perkunas (3-4) 97-84 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by SKM I. Perkunas managed to win third quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SKM I dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Perkunas’ 44. They outrebounded Perkunas 54-26 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. SKM I looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for forward Ernestas Matulevic (200-2005) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 18 rebounds. Center Paulius Rapolis (206-2005) helped adding 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). SKM I’s coach Ignas Pagalys used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Laurynas Vilimas (-2005) responded with 25 points and 9 rebounds and Martynas Mejaras (-2005) scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws). SKM I have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 5-1 record. Perkunas lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with four games lost. SKM I will meet Zalgiris II (#5) in the next round. Perkunas will play against the league’s second-placed VKM and hope to secure a win.

Very expected game in Kaunas where 7th ranked Zalgiris I (4-4) was defeated by third ranked VKKM (6-1) 80-74 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-18. But Zalgiris I won second period 18-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. VKKM looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Zalgiris I’s players. It was a great evening for guard Kristupas Lesciauskas (190-2005) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Kristupas Grybas (-2006) helped adding 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four VKKM players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Mantas Kocanas (207-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 23 rebounds and 4 blocks and point guard Kristupas Kepezinskas (177-2005) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. VKKM have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with VKM. Loser Zalgiris I keeps the seventh place with four games lost. VKKM will meet at home Panevezio (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zalgiris I will play against Saule in Siauliai and hope to secure a win.

The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. VKM forced 22 Tornado KM turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a great evening for guard Erikas Vansevicius (188-2005) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Point guard Emilis Kargertas (183-2005) helped adding 23 points and 4 assists. At the losing side power forward Emilis Baltrimavicius (203-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Armandas Bancevicius (-2006) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Tornado KM’s coach Sarunas Zablockis rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. VKM keeps a position of league leader, which they share with VKKM. Loser Tornado KM keeps the ninth place with five games lost. VKM will meet Perkunas (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tornado KM will play against Marijampoles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
