Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Round 8 most important game was a defeat of league’s leader Slovan (5-2). They were defeated by eighth ranked Jezica (3-4) 79-69 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Jezica. Slovan managed to win fourth quarter 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Jezica forced 22 Slovan turnovers. 27 personal fouls committed by Slovan helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Alen Zulic (192-2004) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and forward Matic Vesel (206-1998, college: Illinois) who added 21 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) during the contest. Matic Lamut (-2003) responded with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Slovan’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Jezica moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Sezana. Slovan at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Troti. They were replaced at the leadership position by Triglav. Slovan will play next round against strong Jance trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Ljubljana to the arena of Jance. Jezica will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Troti at home.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Triglav as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Triglav smashed 7th ranked Sezana in Kranj 88-60. The winners were led by center Uros Sikanic (201-2001) who scored that evening 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Crt Cabrilo supported him with 21 points and 5 assists. Even 17 points by guard Adrian Hirschmann (190-2000) did not help to save the game for Sezana. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Triglav have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Sezana at the other side keeps the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Jezica. Sezana will play next round against Litija trying to get back on the winning streak. Triglav will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Celje at home.
A very close game took place in Portoroz between Portoroz and Celje. Sixth ranked Portoroz (4-2) got a very close home victory over 11th ranked Celje (1-6). Portoroz managed to escape with a 1-point win 88-87 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The best player for the winners was Andraz Rogelja who scored 27 points and 8 assists. Portoroz’s coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Blaz Ivec produced 14 points and 5 assists for the guests. Portoroz have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Celje keeps the eleventh position with six games lost. They share it with Postojna. Portoroz will meet at home Medvode (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Celje will play against the league’s leader Triglav in Kranj and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: Litija was destroyed by Nova Gorica on the opponent’s court 78-58. Jance managed to outperform Postojna in a home game 83-72. Troti rolled over Medvode on the road 94-64.

Nova Gorica – Litija 78-58

There was an upset when higher ranked Litija (3-3) was crushed on the road by tenth ranked Nova Gorica (2-4) 78-58 on Saturday. Nova Gorica dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Litija’s 20. They outrebounded Litija 35-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was guard Nejc Pajntar (185-2003) who scored 24 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Center Aidin Artukovic (205-2003) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Nova Gorica’s coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Dragan Pusic (193-1984) produced 25 points and Nejc Pavliha (197-2000) added 9 points respectively for the guests. Nova Gorica moved-up to ninth place. Loser Litija dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Nova Gorica will meet at home bottom-ranked Postojna (#12) in the next round. Litija will play against Sezana (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Portoroz – Celje 88-87

A very close game took place in Portoroz between Portoroz and Celje. Sixth ranked Portoroz (4-2) got a very close home victory over 11th ranked Celje (1-6). Portoroz managed to escape with a 1-point win 88-87 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Celje was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 24-21 charge of Portoroz, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Andraz Rogelja (189-1995, agency: PEPI SPORT) who scored 27 points and 8 assists. Tim Skerbec (200-1993) chipped in 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Portoroz’s coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Point guard Blaz Ivec (183-2001) produced 14 points and 5 assists and Aljaz Skof (-2002) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for the guests. Four Celje players scored in double figures. Very predictable result in Ljubljana where third ranked Jance (5-1) defeated bottom-ranked Postojna (1-6) 83-72 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Jance. Postojna managed to win fourth quarter 14-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Jance dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Postojna’s 28. They outrebounded Postojna 41-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was power forward Jure Licen (197-2000) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. Point guard Jurij Visnikar (187-2003) chipped in 13 points and 6 assists. Four Jance players scored in double figures. Point guard Peter Meze (183-2001) produced 34 points (!!!) and forward Miha Kodric (196-1997) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Postojna’s coach tested eleven players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Jance have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Postojna lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with six games lost. They share it with Celje. Jance’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Ljubljana Slovan.

Triglav players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Sezana’s players. Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Medvode (2-5) was rolled over at home by fifth ranked Troti (5-2) 94-64 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Troti. Medvode managed to win second period 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Troti forced 20 Medvode turnovers. The best player for the winners was center Jaka Mori (202-2001) who scored 20 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Guard Aljaz Krizan (187-2003) chipped in 17 points. Four Troti players scored in double figures. Martin Skrlec (-2000) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and Aljosa Mlekuz (-2002) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Troti have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Slovan. Medvode lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with five games lost. Troti will meet Jezica (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Medvode will play against Portoroz and hope to secure a win.
