Peteris Salmins
21-year old power forward Peteris Salmins (205-PF-2001) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league’s best team RSU/VEF and receives a Hoops Agents RNBL Player of the Week award for round 8.
He had a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds, while his team beat LU/BS Riga (#6, 1-1) 77-70. It allowed RSU/VEF to consolidate first place in the Latvian RNBL. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but RSU/VEF already had a very good start winning all 3 without losing a single one. Salmins turned to be RSU/VEF’s top player in his first season with the team. Peteris Salmins averages just after three games 13.0ppg and 6.0rpg.
Second best performed player last round was Nikolajs Zotovs (190-PG-1998) of Turiba. He is a guard in his first season at Turiba. In the last game Zotovs recorded impressive 34 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Turiba lost that game 96-105 to the higher-ranked VeA (#4, 4-1). Turiba managed to keep the same 8th spot in West. His team is not often considered as one of the league’s best with a mere 3-4 record. Zotovs is a newcomer at Turiba and quickly became one of team’s most reliable players.
Third place about best performers goes to guard Kristaps Miglinieks (196-G-1990) of Grobina (#9). Miglinieks scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Miglinieks’ great performance Grobina lost 67-98 to slightly lower-ranked Tukums (#10, 1-6). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Miglinieks has a very solid season. In 5 games in Latvia he scored 16.8ppg.

5. Davis Klegeris (185-G-1997) of Kekava – 33 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Roberts Smildzejs (196-F/G-2001) of Saldus – 17 points and 8 rebounds
7. Ritvars Kaulins (196-F-1991) of Tukums – 22 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Ralfs Lacis (206-C-2000) of VeA – 14 points and 8 rebounds
9. Gints Zomerfelds (189-G-2000) of Turiba – 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Roberts Prusis (195-F-1998) of VeA – 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it’s accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) – 2*BSAG – 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM – 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) – 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) – (FTA-FTM)
