Undefeated Njardvik (4-1) recorded its first loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Grindavik (3-2) 85-80. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Njardvik. Point guard Bragi Gudmundsson (194-2003) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. David Azore contributed with 25 points for the winners. Argentinian Lisandro Rasio (197-1990) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 18 rebounds for Njardvik. Grindavik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Hottur and Haukar. Njardvik at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Grindavik will play against Tindastoll (#8) in Sauoarkrokur in the next round. Njardvik will play on the road against the league’s second-placed Breidablik (#2) in Kopavogur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Bottom-ranked IR (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 105-87 loss to third ranked Breidablik (4-1) in Reykjavik on Thursday evening. Keflavik – Haukar 106-84

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Keflavik and 4th placed Haukar had identical 3-1 record. This time Keflavik used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Hafnarfjordur 106-84 on Thursday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Keflavik. Haukar managed to win second period 30-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Keflavik dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Haukar’s 28 and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Lithuanian center Dominykas Milka (203-1992, college: St.Rose, NY) stepped up and scored 25 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and American-Puerto Rican guard Eric Ayala (196-1999, college: Maryland) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Newly promoted Haukar dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Grindavik and Hottur. Tindastoll – Stjarnan 98-89

There was a small surprise in Sauoarkrokur where tenth ranked Tindastoll (2-3) defeated 8th ranked Stjarnan (2-3) 98-89 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 54-41 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Stjarnan outrebounded Tindastoll 40-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. American Keyshawn Woods (192-1996, college: Ohio St.) stepped up and scored 36 points (!!!) (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners and the former international point guard Sigtryggur Bjornsson (180-1993, college: St.Mary’s) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists. Four Tindastoll players scored in double figures. American point guard Robert Turner III (190-1993, college: Texas Tech, agency: Interperformances) responded with 37 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (199-1982, agency: IceBasket) scored 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tindastoll moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Stjarnan. Tindastoll will meet higher ranked Grindavik (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Stjarnan will play against Hottur in Egilsstadir and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
