Everage Richardson

After 4 rounds played we can already see who rules in the Subway League and who belongs to weaker ones. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was the first loss of Keflavik (3-1) in Kopavogur on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Breidablik (3-1) 97-82. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Keflavik. The hosts trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 97-82. Breidablik made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Breidablik made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Everage Richardson (191-1985, college: Coastal) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Jeremy Smith (190-1991, college: Nicholls St.) who added 20 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American-Puerto Rican guard Eric Ayala (196-1999, college: Maryland) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Keflavik’s coach Hjalti Vilhjalmsson rotated twelve players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Breidablik moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Keflavik. Breidablik is looking forward to face IR (#11) in Reykjavik in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Keflavik will play at home against Haukar (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Haukar (3-1) against fifth ranked Valur (3-1) on Friday night. Host Haukar was defeated by Valur in Hafnarfjordur 87-77. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Haukar. The winners were led by the former international guard Kari Jonsson (192-1997, college: Drexel) who scored that evening 28 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and Pablo Bertone supported him with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Even a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds by Lithuanian power forward Norbertas Giga (208-1995, college: JSU) did not help to save the game for Haukar. Valur have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Haukar. Valur will play against bottom-ranked Thor Thorl (#12) in Thorlakshofn in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Haukar will play on the road against Keflavik (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
KR has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Thorlakshofn, where they edged Thor Thorl (0-4) 121-118 on Friday. Jordan Semple fired 29 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Styrmir Thrastarson produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists for lost side. KR (1-3) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Tindastoll. It was Thor Thorl’s fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. They share the position with IR. KR will meet at home higher ranked Hottur (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Thor Thorl will play against the league’s second-placed Valur (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 4: winless IR lost to Grindavik on the opponent’s court 79-84. Hottur managed to outperform Tindastoll in a home game 73-69. Njardvik rolled over Stjarnan on the road 88-67.
