Here is the weekly review of the top performing Portuguese players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week’s number one is former international point guard Rafael Lisboa (184-1999, currently plays in BNXT-League). He contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Circus Brussels (1-2) 74-55 in the BNXT League last Sunday.
Lisboa scored 9 points and added 5 assists.
Spirou Basket Charleroi (2-1) is placed fourth in the BNXT League.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
This year Lisboa averages: 7.7ppg, 2.3rpg, 3.7apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 46.2%.
He played for the Portuguese senior national team year ago.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced former international center Sasa Borovnjak (206-1989, agency: 011 Sports, college: Penn St., currently plays in Spain). Borovnjak led Alicante to a victory over the 16th-ranked Caceres (1-2) 72-65 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Sunday night.
He was MVP of the game. Borovnjak scored 19 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes; not bad, considering it’s only his first season in pro basketball. HLA Alicante (2-2) is placed ninth in the LEB Gold.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Borovnjak’s overall stats are: 8.8ppg, 2.5rpg, 2FGP: 62.5%(15-24) in four games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Serbian and Portuguese.
Former S.C. Lusitania EXPERT starter played for the Portuguese national team in 22.
#3. The Portuguese player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Jeremiah Wilson (205-1988, college: Tarleton St., currently plays in Japan). Wilson could not help Bambitious Nara (1-5) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance the sixth-placed Bambitious Nara (1-5) was crushed 98-77 on the road by the leading Ehime OV in the West group.
Wilson was the second best scorer with 19 points. He also added 7 rebounds.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Wilson has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.7ppg, 9.5rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 55.6%(25-45), 3FGP: 26.7% and FT: 76.9%.
Wilson is a naturalized American.
He played for the Portuguese national team year ago.
Wilson used to play for Sport Lisboa Benfica in Portuguese league.
#4. Forward Joao Grosso (196-1994, currently plays in Switzerland) was the major contributor in Pully‘s victory against the eighth-ranked CNBS (1-2) crushing them 90-48 in the Swiss NLB (second division) on Friday night.
Grosso scored 19 points, had 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists.
Pully Lausanne Foxes (3-0) are placed second in the NLB.
So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Grosso has relatively good stats this season: 11.3ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.7apg.

#5. Former international guard Diogo Brito (198-1997, college: Utah St., currently plays in Spain) managed to help ICG Forca Lleida in a victory against the closely-ranked Melilla (0-3) 91-83 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Sunday night.
Brito scored 5 points in 20 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. ICG Forca Lleida (2-1) is placed second in the LEB Gold.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Brito’s total stats are: 7.7ppg and 3.0rpg in three games.
He used to play for the Portuguese national team

#6. Power forward Goncalo Delgado (203-1998, currently plays in Spain) faced previously mentioned Diogo Brito in the Spanish LEB Gold last game.
Delgado was not able to help one of league’s weakest teams one of league’s weakest teams Melilla in their game against Lleida (3-0). He cannot count Sunday’s game as one of the best ones.
Delgado scored only 3 points.
Melilla was defeated 91-83 on the opponent’s court by the higher-ranked Lleida (#3).
So far Melilla lost all three games in the Regular Season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Delgado has averaged so far 3.7ppg and 3.0rpg.
He is a former international player as he played for the Portuguese senior team year ago.
#7. Former U20 international guard Diogo Soares (193-2002, currently plays in United Kingdom) contributed to a 2-point Hoods‘ victory against the ninth-ranked Rockets (0-1) 83-81 in the British NBL D1 (second division) on Sunday night.
He scored 6 points.
Nottingham Hoods (2-0) is placed third in the NBL D1.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Soares has averaged so far 7.0ppg, 3.5rpg, 2.0apg and 1.5spg.

#1. Rafael Munford (195-F-1998, college: Augusta, currently plays in Brazil) led Pinheiros to a victory over the 11th-ranked Minas (1-2) 81-72 in the Brazilian NBB in Tuesday night’s game.
He was MVP of the game. Munford recorded 18 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 25 minutes. It was his first game for Pinheiros this season; quite an impressive performance considering it’s only his first season in pro basketball. His team is placed first in the NBB.
So far Pinheiros won all three games in the Regular Season.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Munford has a dual citizenship: Portuguese and Brazilian.
#2. Kevin Monteiro (195-F-1994, currently plays in Switzerland) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Lugano (0-3) 96-80 in the Swiss SBL last Saturday.
He scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 32 minutes.
BC Boncourt Red Team (2-1) is placed third in the SBL.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Monteiro’s total stats are: 10.0ppg, 6.7rpg and 1.7apg in three games he played so far.
He is another player who holds two passports: Portuguese and Swiss.
#3. Oz Blayzer (199-F-1992, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). Blayzer could not help one of league’s weakest teams Hapoel Jerusalem (1-1) to beat EnBW Ludwigsburg (2-0). He cannot count it as his best performance.
Blayzer scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 11 minutes.
Hapoel Jerusalem lost 71-80 on the road to the leading EnBW Ludwigsburg.
There are only four games left until the end of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
This year Blayzer’s total stats are: 4.5ppg and 4.0rpg in two games.
He has both Portuguese and Israeli nationalities.
#4. Jordan Ratinho (196-G-1998, college: USF, currently plays in United Kingdom) managed to help B.Braun Sheffield Sharks to win against one of league’s weakest teams Newcastle Eagles (1-4) 66-59 in the British BBL last Friday.
Ratinho recorded 5 points.
B.Braun Sheffield Sharks (4-4) is placed fourth in the BBL.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Ratinho’s total stats this season are: 8.2ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.5apg and 1.2spg.
He is a naturalized American.
#5. Bruno Fernando (200-F/C-1996, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Chantada‘s victory against the seventh-ranked Betanzos (1-1) 75-61 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday.
Fernando scored only 2 points in 7 minutes on the court.
Ucogs Seguros C.B. Chantada-Ensino (2-0) is placed first in Group A-B.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Fernando has averaged so far 1.5ppg and 1.5rpg in two games.
