There were only 2 rounds played so far and it’s still very beginning of the Regular Season in FIBA Europe Cup. The round was exceptionally exciting as three games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 2 in FIBA Europe Cup took place in Gaziantep where host Turkish Gaziantep crushed Belgian Antwerp Giants 82-63 on Wednesday evening. Gaziantep outrebounded Antwerp Giants 32-18 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was point guard Codi Miller-McIntyre (191-1994, college: Wake Forest) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Swingman Damyean Dotson (196-1994, college: Houston) chipped in 19 points. point guard Maurice Watson (178-1993, college: Creighton) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 assists for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Antwerp Giants will play next round against strong Hapoel Haifa trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Gaziantep will try to continue on its current victory against Gmunden Swans at home.
Dutch Den Bosch smashed Estonian Parnu at home 87-55. Latvian Verners Kohs (203-1997) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Chris-Ebou Ndow contributed with 6 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Ukrainian power forward Sergiy Pavlov (209-1997) replied with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Parnu. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Parnu will play next round against strong Fribourg trying to get back on the winning streak. Den Bosch will try to continue on its current victory against FC Porto on the road.

In Group B winless Gmunden was beaten by H.Haifa at home 60-65.
In Group C Fribourg lost to FC Porto on the opponent’s court 73-87.
In Group D Balkan managed to outperform Opava in a home game 79-64. Levice lost to Keravnos on the road 68-77.
In Group E Oradea crushed Rilski on its own court 99-63. Cholet lost to Mechelen in a road game 85-88.
In Group F winless Groningen was destroyed by Brindisi at home 65-87. Kalev/Cramo managed to outperform Budivelnyk on the opponent’s court 83-74.
In Group G winless Kormend recorded a loss to Sporting in a home game 98-99. Kauhajoki defeated Anwil on the road 89-88.
In Group H winless Crailsheim lost to undefeated Craiova on its own court 60-73. Norrkoping lost to Voluntari in a road game 60-75.
The best stats of 2nd round was 29 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by Domien Loubry of Mechelen.

Voluntari – Norrkoping 75-60

There was a minor upset when Swedish Norrkoping was defeated on the road by Romanian Voluntari 75-60 on Wednesday. Voluntari dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Norrkoping’s 26. They outrebounded Norrkoping 39-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. American forward Terry Larrier (203-1995, college: UConn) scored 13 points to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Eric Thompson (204-1993, college: Pacific) chipped in 6 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. British-Swedish power forward Nicholas Spires (210-1994) responded with 13 points and point guard Hugo Bergstrom (183-2001) scored 8 points. Norrkoping’s coach rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Voluntari will meet Hakro Merlins in the next round. Norrkoping will play against Craiova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
