Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Diante Garrett (193-1988, college: Iowa St.) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Amin Stevens (203-1990, college: FAMU, agency: BIG) contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. E.Kiryat Ata’s coach Sharon Avrahami used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Maurice Kemp (203-1991, college: ECU) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for Bnei Hasharon. Bnei Hasharon will play next round against Hapoel Jerusalem trying to get back on the winning streak. E.Kiryat Ata will try to continue on its current victory against Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Tel Aviv.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Galil Elion in Gan Ner. Visitors were edged by Gilboa Galil 117-115. American players dominated the game. Guard Payton Willis (193-1998, college: Minnesota) stepped up and scored 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners and Justin Gorham chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Gilboa Galil’s coach Rami Hadar allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side forward Bryce Washington (201-1996, college: La-Lafayette) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Gilboa Galil will play against Hapoel Holon at home in the next round. Galil Elion will play against Hapoel Beer Sheva and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game was also tough home loss of Hapoel Beer Sheva in a game versus undefeated Hapoel Haifa 96-92. Amit Simhon nailed 25 points for the winning side. Neta Segal came up with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists for Hapoel Beer Sheva in the defeat. Hapoel Haifa will meet at home Hapoel Tel-Aviv in the next round. Hapoel Beer Sheva will play against Galil Elion in Kfar Blum and hope to win that game.
Other games in round 1 were not that significant. H.Jerusalem lost to H.Holon on the road 76-80. H.Tel-Aviv destroyed H.Eilat on its own court 98-59. I.Ness Ziona lost to M.Tel-Aviv in Tel Aviv 87-95.
The most impressive performance of 1st round was 25 points and 11 rebounds by Jarell Martin of M.Tel-Aviv.
H.Gilboa Galil – H.Galil Elion 117-115

Hapoel Tel-Aviv looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Hapoel Eilat’s players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hapoel Tel-Aviv made 7 blocks. International power forward Idan Zalmanson (206-1995, agency: Avi Zilberman) nailed a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks for the winning side and American guard Xavier Munford (193-1992, college: URI) accounted for 19 points.
