We bring you last week’s top performances from Belarusians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week’s number one is an experienced international center Artsiom Parakhouski (211-87, college: Radford, currently plays in VTB United League). He was the major contributor in Parma‘s victory against the ninth-ranked Enisey (3-7) 78-61 in the VTB United League in Thursday night’s game.
Parakhouski scored 18 points, had 8 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 31 minutes on the court.
Parma Basket Perm (5-4) is placed seventh in group A.
It’s Parakhouski’s first season with the team.
He has relatively good stats this year: 10.6ppg, 8.2rpg, 1.4bpg, 2FGP: 57.1%(36-63) and FT: 69.7% in nine games he played so far.
Parakhouski is currently a member of the Belarusian senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former U18 international forward Anton Astapkovich (202-94, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). He managed to help BC Nizhny Novgorod to win against the closely-ranked JDA Dijon (3-3) 93-85 in the Basketball Champions League last Tuesday.
Astapkovich recorded only 3 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and made 2 blocks.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BC Nizhny Novgorod (2-4) is placed fourth in the Basketball Champions League.
The Regular Season already ended in the Basketball Champions League.
Astapkovich is one of the most experienced players in a team as it’s his fourth year in N.Novgorod’s roster.
This season he averages: 9.8ppg, 4.3rpg, 4.5apg, 2FGP: 38.9%, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 94.1%(16-17).
Astapkovich played for the Belarusian U18 national team in 2011.
#3. The Belarusian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Maksim Salash (206-96, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). He could not help one of league’s weakest teams Burgos (4-2) to beat Rytas (4-2).
Salash recorded 6 points in 20 minutes.
Burgos lost 77-84 at home to the leading Rytas.
They ended the series of three consecutive victories.
The Regular Season already ended in the Basketball Champions League.
This year Salash’s overall stats are: 5.0ppg, 2.4rpg, 2FGP: 33.3% in five games.
He is also a member of the Belarusian senior national team.
#4. Power forward Denis Vikentsyeu (208-98, currently plays in Kazakhstan) led Barsy Atyrau to a victory against one of league’s weakest teams Tobol (3-9) 91-77 in the Kazakhstan National League in Sunday night’s game.
Vikentsyeu recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 4 assists.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BK Barsy Atyrau (10-3) is placed second in the National League.
It was his team’s eighth consecutive victory in a row.
Vikentsyeu’s total stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.7apg and 1.2spg.
He is also Belarusian national team player.
#5. Former U18 international forward Yauhen Massalski (208-99, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to USF‘s victory against the Southern Illinois University (1-0) 64-52 in the NCAA last Wednesday.
Massalski scored 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 31 minutes.
The University of San Francisco has 6-6 overall record this season.
This year Massalski has relatively solid stats: 14.1ppg, 8.1rpg, 1.3apg and 2.2bpg in 12 games.
He used to play for the Belarusian U18 national team
four years ago.
#6. Swingman Roman Rubinshteyn (194-96, agency: Alti Sport, currently plays in Israel) contributed to M.Ashdod‘s victory against the league outsider M.Hod Hasharon (1-12) 91-81 in the Israeli National League (second division) on Sunday night.
Rubinshteyn recorded 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
Maccabi Ashdod/Be’er Tuvia (3-8) is placed 13th in the National League.
It was his team’s first victory after five consecutive loses.
Rubinshteyn’s total stats this season are: 8.0ppg, 4.2rpg and 2.1apg.
He is an international player who is currently on the senior Belarusian National Team roster.
#7. International point guard Andrey Rogozenko (183-97, currently plays in Kazakhstan) is a teammate of previously mentioned Denis Vikentsyeu and both played together in the last Kazakhstan National League game.
Rogozenko contributed to a Barsy Atyrau‘s victory against one of league’s weakest teams Tobol (3-9) 91-77.
He recorded 7 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 28 minutes.
Rogozenko has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.3ppg, 4.6rpg, 2.9apg and 2.3spg in 10 games.
Rogozenko is also Belarusian national team player.
#8. Forward Dzmitry Ryuny (206-0, currently studies in the States) is a teammate of previously mentioned Yauhen Massalski. But that was another game of his team in NCAA which we would like to mention.
Ryuny helped USF edge the Arizona State University (1-1) 66-65.
He scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
The University of San Francisco has 6-6 overall record this season.
Ryuny has been at the team for four years.
Ryuny’s total stats this year are: 2.5ppg and 1.7rpg.
He used to play for the Belarusian U20 national team
back in 2019.
#9. Former U20 international guard Valentin Nazarov (185-97, currently plays in Russia) helped Metallurg MGN win their game against the ninth-ranked Novomoskovsk (6-14) 94-82 in the Russian Superleague 2 (third division) in Thursday night’s game.
Nazarov recorded 5 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Metallurg Magnitogorsk Chelyabinsk (15-5) is placed second in the Superleague 2.
Nazarov’s total stats this season are: 3.6ppg, 2.4rpg and 4.6apg.
He used to play for the Belarusian U20 national team
four years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Belarusian passport:
#1. Mikhail Maleyko (206-PF-96, currently plays in Russia). Maleyko could not help Tambov (16-4) to beat Cheb.Yastreby (15-5). He cannot count Sunday’s game as one of the best ones.
Maleyko scored only 2 points and had 3 steals in 26 minutes.
The league leader Tambov lost 67-76 at home to the lower-ranked (#3) Cheb.Yastreby.
This year Maleyko’s total stats are: 8.3ppg and 5.2rpg in 19 games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Belarusian and Russian.
