Defending champion Heroes Den Bosch (DBL) confirmed in their roster 31-year old international center Thomas van der Mars (208cm-107kg-1990, college: Portland, agency: Duran International) for new 2022-2023 season. He has played there for the last three seasons. van der Mars managed to play in three leagues last year. The team played in three different competitions (!!!) that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In 30 BNXT League games he had 11.6ppg, 7.7rpg and 1.8apg. He also played 8 games in DBL where he recorded 11.3ppg, 8.0rpg (#2 in the league), 1.0apg and 1.0bpg. van der Mars helped them to win the league title and they also made it to the Cup final. And finally he contributed to 6 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he averaged 7.2ppg, 4.0rpg (#2 in the league) and 1.0apg.
He has been also a member of Dutch international program for some years. van der Mars has regularly played for Dutch senior team since 2020 and previously for U20 National Team back in 2010.
He represented Holland at the Qualifications to European Championships (FIBA EuroBasket) 2017 six years ago. His stats at that event were 6 games: 4.0ppg, 4.0rpg.
van der Mars has played also professionally in Belgium (Okapi Aalst), Estonia (Kalev/Cramo and Rapla) and Greece (Enosi Kavalas).
He graduated from University of Portland in 2015 and it will be his eighth season as a professional player.
