There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Elite League. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 28 in the Elite League took place in Athens. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd ranked Psychikou (17-11) to sixth ranked Proteas (15-13) 83-81 on Saturday evening. Proteas dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Psychikou‘s 28. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Panagiotis Kois (200-1998, agency: Octagon Europe) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Kostas Koufopoulos (187-1999) who added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side Vasileios Stavrakoukas (191-2001, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. Psychikou’s coach Giorgos Remendelas tried various players’ combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. Newly promoted Proteas maintains sixth position with 15-13 record. Psychikou at the other side keeps the third place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Koroivos. Proteas are looking forward to face Near East (#15) in Kesariani in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Psychikou will play on the road against Doxa Lefkadas (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Mykonou (22-5) against fourth ranked Koroivos (17-11) on Saturday night. Visiting Mykonou was defeated by Koroivos in a tough game in Koroivos 75-81. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Mykonou. The winners were led by American guard Cole Bajema (201-2000, college: Utah) who scored that evening 29 points and RJ Glasper supported him with 19 points and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds by naturalized Australian swingman Nicolas Pozoglou (196-1996) did not help to save the game for Mykonou. Mykonou’s coach Vangelis Ziagkos let to play eleven players, but that didn’t help to avoid defeat in this game. Koroivos moved-up to third place, which they share with Psychikou. Mykonou at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Koroivos will play against Eleftheroupoli (#13) in Kavalas in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mykonou will play at home against Panerythraikos (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Elite League top team – Megaridas (24-4) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat ninth ranked Ermis S. (12-15) 90-74. Dimitris Geromichalos fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 assists for the winners. Vukan Samardzic produced 9 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Megaridas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 24-4 record. Loser Ermis S. dropped to the twelfth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Eleftheroupoli. Megaridas will meet at home Ikaroi Trikala (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ermis S. will play against Papagou (#11) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 28: Papagou won against Esperos on the opponent’s court 78-70. HANTH managed to outperform Vikos in a home game 89-84. Iraklis managed to beat Near East on the road 62-61. Panerythraikos defeated Doxa Lefkadas on its own court 81-71. Eleftheroupoli was beaten by Ikaroi Trikala in a road game 88-73.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 23 points and 9 rebounds by Kostas Pappas of Ikaroi Trikala.


Ermis S. – Megaridas 74-90

Elite League top team – Megaridas (24-4) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat ninth ranked Ermis S. (12-15) 90-74. Megaridas looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists. Point guard Dimitris Geromichalos (185-1994) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 assists for the winners. American forward Craig Victor II (206-1995, college: LSU) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Megaridas players scored in double figures. Serbian-Belgian guard Vukan Samardzic (188-1999) produced 9 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Dimitrios Zervos (185-2006) added 6 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Papagou had a 34-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Swingman Ilias Karamolegkos (192-2000) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American guard Xander Rice (190-2001, college: Monmouth) chipped in 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Papagou players scored in double figures. There was a surprise result in Thessaloniki where fourteenth ranked HANTH (8-20) defeated higher ranked Vikos (13-15) 89-84 on Sunday. HANTH made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Strangely Vikos outrebounded HANTH 39-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when HANTH made 9 blocks. American forward Joshua Lusane (201-2001, college: Hampton) fired 25 points and 5 blocks for the winners. Ioannis Sidiroilias (200-2001) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four HANTH players scored in double figures. HANTH’s coach Giorgis Bousvaros used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Power forward Panagiotis Filippakos (202-1994) produced 24 points and guard Dimitris Ermeidis (191-2000) added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side.
