The most exciting game of round 19 in the BSL took place in Istanbul. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of much higher ranked Efes (14-5) to twelfth ranked Petkimspor (8-11) 103-101 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Efes. Petkim made 27-of-35 free shots (77.1 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Petkim especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 29 personal fouls committed by Anadolu Efes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American Wesley Van Beck (193-1996, college: Houston) who helped to win the game recording 29 points (made all of his thirteen free throws !!!). His fellow American import point guard DeWayne Russell (180-1994, college: GCU) contributed with 12 points and 10 assists for the winners. American swingman Elijah Bryant (196-1995, college: BYU, agency: Pensack Sports) answered with 22 points and 5 assists for Anadolu Efes. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Petkim moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Anadolu Efes at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. They share it with Tofas and Besiktas. Petkim is looking forward to face league’s leader Fenerbahce in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Anadolu Efes will play on the road against Manisa and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Merkezefendi managed to get a fourth victory. This time they edged fifth-ranked Galatasaray in Istanbul 98-96. It was a great evening for Belgian forward Vrenz Bleijenbergh (208-2000) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Tyler Cook helped adding 17 points and 8 rebounds. Merkezefendi’s coach Zafer Aktas allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American James Palmer Jr (198-1996, college: Nebraska) responded with 28 points. Merkezefendi (4-15) moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Yalovaspor. Galatasaray at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Mersin BBGSK. Merkezefendi will play against higher ranked Buyukcekmece (#9) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Galatasaray will play at home against Pinar Karsiyaka (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
BSL top team – Fenerbahce (18-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat thirteenth ranked Darussafaka Lassa (6-13) in Istanbul 91-75. It was a quality performance for Marko Guduric who led the winners and scored 15 points and 4 assists. Tres Tinkle came up with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Darussafaka in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fenerbahce have an impressive series of fourteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-1 record. Loser Darussafaka Lassa keeps the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Manisa. Fenerbahce will meet Petkim (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Darussafaka will play against Turk Telekom (#10) and hope to secure a win.
Other games in round 19 were not that significant. Buyukcekmece beat Bahcesehir on the road 102-93. Manisa won against Mersin BBGSK on its own court 105-100. Pinar Karsiyaka unfortunately lost to Besiktas in Istanbul 79-93. Tofas managed to beat Yalovaspor at home 105-90. Turk Telekom was defeated by Bursaspor on the opponent’s court 93-76.
The most impressive performance of 19th round was 16 points and 5 rebounds by Donte Grantham of Bursaspor.

Buyukcekmece shot 62.3 percent from the field and made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 63.2 percentage. Buyukcekmece looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Jermaine Love (191-1989, college: UIS) who led the winners and scored 28 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Lithuanian center Martynas Sajus (208-1996) accounted for 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Four Buyukcekmece players scored in double figures.
