The Second Stage in NM1 just started. The round was exceptionally exciting as three games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 1 in NM1 took place in Fougeres where host Fougeres beat SO Maritime Boulogne 84-70 on Friday evening. Fougeres made 25-of-32 free shots (78.1 percent) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by Boulogne helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Point guard Maxime Choplin (180-1992) fired 20 points and 6 assists for the winners. Russian Eric Koumba (194-2002) chipped in 13 points and 5 assists. Fougeres’ coach Mathieu Lemercier used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Jiyann Hyacinthe (187) produced 21 points for lost side. SO Maritime Boulogne will play next round against Lorient trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Fougeres will try to continue on its current victory against Avignon/Pontet on the road.
Quimper UJAP defeated Loon-Plage at home 81-66. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian power forward Milan Milovanovic (207-1991, agency: 011 Sports) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 4 assists. Antoine Dudit contributed with 14 points for the winners. American guard Jordan Robertson (190-1996, college: Colgate) answered with 23 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for Loon-Plage. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Loon-Plage will play next round against Levallois trying to get back on the winning streak. Quimper UJAP will try to continue on its current victory against Orchies on the road.
Tours recorded a loss at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Orchesien BC 76-70. Joe Burton stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. At the losing side Collin Turner responded with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Orchesien BC will meet at home Quimper in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tours will play against Lyon and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 1 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Lyon was defeated by Challans in a road game 79-77. Tarbes-Lourdes beat Le Havre at home 80-79. SCABB won against Levallois on the opponent’s court 90-81. Vitre was outscored by Mulhouse in a home game 60-84. Saint Vallier recorded a loss to Les Sables on the road 89-82. Lorient crushed Metz on its own court 100-73. Avignon/Pontet was smashed by Rennes in a road game 106-69. Toulouse won against Besancon at home 64-60. Feurs unfortunately lost to Angers on the opponent’s court 80-93. Poissy recorded a loss to Berck in a home game 82-91. Charleville defeated Pole France on the road 82-80.
The best stats of 1st round was 17 points and 14 rebounds by Jonathan Mkamba of Charleville.


Quimper – Loon-Plage 81-66

Quimper UJAP defeated Loon-Plage at home 81-66. Quimper made 26-of-33 charity shots (78.8 percent) during the game, while Loon-Plage only scored six points from the stripe. Loon-Plage was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian power forward Milan Milovanovic (207-1991, agency: 011 Sports) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 4 assists. There was no surprise when Lyon was edged on the road by Vendee Challans 79-77 on Friday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Challans looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Serbian-Montenegrin power forward Luka Nikolic (209-1994) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and point guard Gregory Bengaber (186-1997) chipped in 12 points and 6 assists. At the losing side American point guard Darhius Nunn (175-1998, college: PBA) responded with 14 points and 7 assists and center Bastien Albert (201-1994) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Four Lyon players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Vendee Challans will meet Mulhouse on the road in the next round. Lyon will play against Tours and hope to secure a win.

They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Point guard Tom Wiscart Goetz (188-1999) stepped up and scored 17 points and 7 assists (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winners and naturalized Guyanese Mike Joseph (203-1994) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. Lourdes-Tarbes’ coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side guard Zaion Nebot (188-2004) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Steven Cayol (193-1997) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Le Havre players scored in double figures. Lourdes-Tarbes will meet Saint Vallier on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. STB Le Havre will play against Vitre and hope to secure a win.
