His fellow American import point guard Joe Toussaint (183-2000, college: Texas Tech) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Karhubasket’s coach Janne Koskimies used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Naje Smith (203-2000, college: Boise St., agency: Worldwide SM) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Karhubasket are looking forward to face Bisons (#4) in Loimaa in the next round. Kataja will play on the road against Korihait in Uusikaupunki and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Seagulls delivered the twenty first victory. This time they crushed Korihait (13-12) 97-76 in Uusikaupunki. It was a good game for American forward Kalib Boone (206-2000, college: UNLV) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. Curtis Hollis contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Kalle Peltonen (201-1998) answered with 17 points and 8 rebounds for Korihait. Korihait’s coach Ivan Ivanovic gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Seagulls will play against Vilpas (#5) in Salo in the next round. Korihait will play at home against Kataja and hopes to get back on the winning track.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Kotka, where Pyrinto (13-12) lost to KTP-Basket (6-18) in a road game 72-88 on Friday. It was a great evening for Marco Anthony who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Luka Sakota with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. KTP-Basket will meet at home Kouvot (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pyrinto will play against Nokia and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 3 Kouvot crushed Honka in Kouvola 102-75. Bottom-ranked Kobrat lost to defending champion Nokia at home 71-79.


Honka – Kouvot 75-102

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Honka‘s (10-14) home loss to Kouvot (12-13) 75-102 on Friday. Kouvot dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Honka‘s 40 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Kouvot had a 36-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for point guard Blake Francis (183-1998, college: Richmond) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 6 assists. Guard Admon Gilder (193-1995, college: Gonzaga) helped adding 20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Five Kouvot players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Anthony Roberts (195-2001, college: PFW) with 17 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Darius Quisenberry (185-1999, college: Fordham) scored 16 points and 4 assists. Honka’s coach Aapo Heinonen already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Kouvot will meet KTP-Basket (#11) in the next round. Honka will play against Kobrat and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game in Lapua where Nokia (11-14) defeated Kobrat (3-22) 79-71 on Friday. Nokia looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for guard Gage Davis-McMurrin (195-1995, college: St.Cloud St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Kahron Ross (180-1995, college: Lehigh, agency: One Motive Sports) helped adding 14 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. Five Nokia players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Ryan Ogden (193-1996, college: Southwestern, agency: One Motive Sports) with 19 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Courtney Alexander (203-1997, college: Tenn Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds.
