The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked TSU (16-4) in Grozny on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by sixteenth ranked Dinamo (5-15) 80-73. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of TSU. 25 personal fouls committed by TSU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for point guard Vasiliy Martynov (191-1995) who led his team to a victory with 13 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. The former international Valeriy Likhodey (205-1986) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Dinamo G.’s coach Nikita Kucherenko used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Daniil Ziborov (205-1999) answered with 10 points and 8 rebounds for TSU. Newly promoted Dinamo maintains sixteenth place with 5-15 record. TSU at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. Dinamo are looking forward to face higher ranked Metallurg MGN (#15) in Magnitogorsk in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. TSU will play at home against Khimki (#3) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked CSKA-2 (15-5) against seventh ranked Chelbasket (10-10) on Tuesday night. Host CSKA-2 was defeated by Chelbasket in a tough game in Moscow 83-89. Point guard Andrey Toptunov (183-2002) stepped up and scored 18 points and 6 assists for the winners and Alexandr Lavnikov chipped in 17 points. The best for the losing side was Ivan Zaytsev (197-2004) with 21 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Chelbasket maintains seventh place with 10-10 record, which they share with Irkut. CSKA-2 at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Chelbasket will play against higher ranked Zenit-2 (#4) in Saint Petersburg in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CSKA-2 will play at home against Irkut and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Kupol-Rodniki moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Lok.Kuban. Zenit-2 lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with six games lost. They share it with Khimki and Dinamo. Kupol-Rodniki will meet at home Univ.Surgut (#13) in the next round. Zenit-2 will play against Chelbasket (#8) in Chelyabinsk and hope to secure a win.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 21: Irkut beat BARS-RGEU on the road 80-79. Khimki won against Barnaul on its own court 79-68. Dinamo unfortunately lost to Lok.Kuban in Krasnodar 77-78. Tambov managed to beat Metallurg MGN at home 84-72. Novosybirsk defeated Univ.Surgut on the opponent’s court 83-79.
The most impressive performance of 21th round was 11 points and 9 rebounds by Alexandr Vinnik of Kupol-Rodniki.
BARS-RGEU – Irkut 79-80
The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked Irkut‘s (10-10) road victory over 10th ranked BARS-RGEU (7-13) in Rostov 80-79 on Tuesday. Forward Andrei Savrasov (201-2000, college: Duquesne, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) nailed 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and forward Kirill Savin (196-2000, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) accounted for 16 points. Point guard Maxim Tkachenko (185-1992, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) came up with 21 points and 8 assists and Dmitriy Doynikov (204-1994) added 21 points and 8 rebounds respectively for BARS-RGEU in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Irkut have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Chelbasket. Khimki outrebounded Barnaul 47-34 including a 35-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Khimki looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Guard Fedor Klyuchnikov (193-1990) nailed 30 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side and center Vladislav Sharapov (204-1999) accounted for 21 points and 10 rebounds. Maksim Beloshapko (200-2002) came up with 17 points and center Dmitrii Karbusov (205-1999) added 16 points and 4 steals respectively for Barnaul in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Khimki have a solid series of three victories in a row.
