Round 14 most important game was a defeat of league’s leader Armann (11-4). They were crushed by ninth ranked KV (6-8) 99-77 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Armann. The game without a history. KV led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They outrebounded Armann 48-36 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. KV looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Armann‘s players. Forward Fridrik Jonsson (200-2002) had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and guard Eyjolfur Halldorsson (196-1998) chipped in 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Forward Arnaldur Grimsson (195-2002) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. KV moved-up to eighth place. Armann at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Hamar. Armann will play next round against Breidablik trying to make it back to the top of the standings. KV will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Selfoss on the road.
The game in Akureyri was also worth to mention about. Third ranked IA (11-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Thor (6-7). IA defeated Thor 100-86. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Thor AK. Brazilian forward Victor Bafutto (208-1998, college: ULM) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort and Kristofer Gislason supported him with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Even 20 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Tim Dalger (201, college: St.Louis) did not help to save the game for Thor. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. IA have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Thor at the other side keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. IA will play against Skallagrimur (#11) in Borganes in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Thor will play at home against KFG (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Gardabaer was also quite interesting. Second ranked Hamar (12-3) played at the court of 8th ranked KFG (5-9). Hamar defeated KFG 110-97 on Friday. The best player for the winners was Jose Medina who had a double-double by scoring 30 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. Viktor Ludviksson produced 28 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hamar have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Newly promoted KFG dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost. Hamar will meet Fjolnir (#5) in the next round. KFG will play against Thor (#7) in Akureyri and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 14: Fjolnir won against Breidablik on the opponent’s court 92-83. Snaefell managed to outperform Selfoss in a home game 94-79. Sindri managed to beat Skallagrimur on the road 81-74.


Breidablik – Fjolnir 83-92

There was a minor upset in Kopavogur where 5th ranked Breidablik (7-7) was defeated by seventh ranked Fjolnir (7-7) 92-83 on Thursday. Breidablik was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 23-13 charge of Fjolnir, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was Canadian power forward Lewis Diankulu (201-1995, college: Queens, NC) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Forward Sigvaldi Eggertsson (201-2000) chipped in 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Fjolnir players scored in double figures. Fjolnir’s coach Borche Ilievski used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Maalik Cartwright (198-2000, college: Delta St.) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Logi Gudmundsson (190-2007) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Fjolnir have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Breidablik. Breidablik lost third consecutive game. Fjolnir will meet at home league’s leader Hamar in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Breidablik will play against Armann (#3) in Reykjavik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
