He began his professional career in Greece for the 2019-20 season with Panionios before moving to Britain for the first time with the Plymouth Raiders in the 2020-21 season.

In his season with the Raiders, Rickey averaged 17 points per game, 5 assists per game and 4.3 rebounds per game, and in March 2021 was named the leagues’ player of the month. The Raiders team from the 2020-21 season also included current Sharks centre Mike Ochereobia.

In the following two seasons, McGill played in Hungary, Estonia and New Zealand before signing in Tyneside for 2023-24. Rickey was playing in Poland for the first part of this season (2024-25) with Dziki Warszawa and joins the Sharks having averaged 10.7 points, 5.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game in the Polish OBL. Rickey is excited to be joining the Sharks stating, “I’m looking forward to joining the Sharks, they have a fantastic facility and I’m excited to be able to call Sheffield home. I have played against the Sharks many times when I’ve been in the league before and I know their identity and how they like to play, and I feel confident that I can contribute to the team”.

Sharks Head Coach Atiba Lyons spoke of his excitement with the signing of McGill, stating “Rickey is an elite level guard and I’m happy for him to be joining us for the remainder of the season. He knows the league well and has great experience here and overseas which I’m sure will be very beneficial to us moving forward”.
