Even 22 points and 6 rebounds by Lotanna Nwogbo did not help to save the game for Fuenlabrada. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Estudiantes have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Burgos SP. Fuenlabrada at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. Estudiantes will meet Cantabria (#14) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Fuenlabrada will play against Burgos T. (#8) and hope to secure a win.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 14: Alicante was beaten by Menorca on the road 73-71. Gipuzkoa destroyed Cantabria on its own court 83-60. Castello unfortunately lost to Cartagena in a road game 106-107. Palencia managed to beat Valladolid at home 90-75. Winless Moron was defeated by Real Betis on the opponent’s court 74-68. Zamora smashed Oviedo in a home game 100-81.
The most impressive performance of 14th round was 25 points and 7 rebounds by Jordan Walker of Zamora.
Menorca – Alicante 73-71
No shocking result in a game when fourteenth ranked Menorca (5-9) edged 17th ranked Alicante (2-12) in Mahon 73-71 on Sunday. Serbian Marko Lukovic (206-1992) notched 17 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and American forward Sean McDonnell (203-1995, college: Westmont, agency: Helping Ballers) supported him with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Even 19 points and 9 rebounds by Danish center Kevin Larsen (208-1993, college: GWU) did not help to save the game for Alicante. Guard Adria Rodriguez (192-2003) added 17 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Four Alicante players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. This time Gipuzkoa used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Torrelavega 83-60 on Sunday night. Canadian-Croatian power forward Josip Vrankic (206-1998, college: Santa Clara, agency: Players Group) notched 19 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and Argentinian-Italian guard Mateo Diaz (186-2002) supported him with 22 points.
